The Dive Squad

Bahamas. Well here's how it all began. I was having the time of my life with with on of my best friends Jonny. He was joining me to go scubadiving. I've been before but not with one of m friends. It was one of the hottest days I ever lived through. I almost past out, but i knew that once i got into the cool water i would feel refreshed.

My sister, don't even get me started with her. She usually doesn't do anything with my family i she can do it with her friends so she is always with her friends. She's a party pooper. We were driving down to the scuba site and she says "I don't want to dive!" in an annoying tone. We didn't care so we just kept driving on.

It wasn't so bad that my sister didn't want to dive with us, it was that she kept ramling on about something or other. She kept yelling about something bad that was going to happen today. I thougth she was just trying to annoy me so i started talking to jonny and ignored her.

"Yes were finally here and i'm out of the car with you!" I exclaimed.

"Shut up Alex!" she exasperated.

"So where are the instructors? Are they late? When do we get in the water?" Jonny was sooooooo anxcoius that he kept asking tons of questions.

Well they finally arrived and I was so excited, but they looked a little strange. They had huge brief cases with them but they didn't look like scuba tanks. I couln't figure out what they were.

"Hey jonny, don't those guys over there look funny?"

"You're right. I haven't seen a scuba instructor before but i know they shouldn't lookk like that." He agreed.

"So what's in the case?" I questioned calmly.

"Hey kid if you know what's best for you then you will run allong to your parents and stop asking so many questions!" He quipped.

My parents were talking with the instructers and getting to know them and i had a plan. My pan was to go over to the cases open them and see what was inside. I would use jonny as a distraction. I would pretend to talk to him and he would be blocking the cases from the view of the instructers. We headed over to the cases and I couldn't beleive my eyes. the cases were like electronically incripted or something with hand i sensors or something. It looked like something out of a sci-fi movie.

I ran over to my parents as fast as i could to tell them what jonny and I saw.

"Mom, Dad you'll nevr guess what i just saw!" I raved.

"Yea it was like some sort of alien technology!"he further explained.

"That briefcase that the instructers had!"

"What briefcase?"

The Harassenator

The years 2003 was when Arnold Schwarzenegger was running for the governor of Califonia. He was acussed of harassing women on movie sets on his previous movies like Terminator and True Lies. He reiterated he didn't do it but some still don't believe him. He also said that when people accussed him of harassing, he said was playful. He didn't realize what he was doing was considered harassing at the time. He said he was just having fun because he was a movie star. When he was asked why he did what he did, he said that he didn't remember. He also reiterated many times that he didn't harass the women he was just being playful.

In this paragraph Arnold uses the propoganda technique of Plain Folks. This is when he compares himself that he is just an ordinary person and that everybosy makes mistakes including him. Arnold realizes that the people thimk he harassed the women so he said, "But I now recognize that I have ofended people"(schwarzenegger 4). He realizes that he can't leave the croud with such a terrible ending to his press conference so he says, "I am deeply sorry and i apoligize"(Schwzarzenegger 4). . He finally acceptes that the people think that he harassed those women but he won't admit it. All he admitts was that he was having fun not that he harassed the women. He does the right thing and still apoligizes.

In the end, I don't think Arnold gave a very believable speech. Although he tries to use plain folks to win over the croud, his overall speech was inadequit. He didn't give good reasons to defend himself against the false alligations in the case that he harassed the women on the movie sets. He was very unsure of answers and he just said to make the crowd happy. As an example he says that he "doesn't remember" and that "most of it is not true". Because he uses his brief memory's to base his guiltness off of, his argument is very unbelievable. As a result, his atempt to use ethos was wasted. The govenators untrustworthiness may affect his political power.
